Lone Dissenting Voice

Who could ever imagine that Amp Power would be mentioned in the same breath as "Meet the Press" and "The New Republic"? Well, it happened this week in New York Magazine's comments section in which the weekly cited rave reviews for its Bill Clinton-in-Drag cover, along with one lone dissenting voice--yours truly. The weekly writes that "The New Republic's blog called it 'hilarious.' The Amp Power blog was unimpressed..." (See side image to read more.) I got a lot of ink on this one. Today, New York Magazine; tomorrow, the Drudge Report!

Two Scoops, Please

Ooo, I scooped the NY Times again. Last week, I wrote about Thomas Hirschhorn's exhibit, "Superficial Engagement," at Gladstone Gallery. I noted/warned that the overwhelming number of photographs of butchered Arabs is shocking and upsetting. I went to this show after reading positive notices, but nothing hinting at the kicked-in-the-gut disturbing factor. Well, yesterday the Times published an article basically saying what I said. Beating NYT to the Punch

I'm proud to say that I highlighted painter Dana Schutz way back in August 2005, and the New York Times is just now publishing a profile of this up-and-coming artist. I saw Schutz's work at P.S. 1's Greater New York exhibition and pointed out that her stuff was some of the best. It's true that NYT beat me to the punch on Cat Power's album release, but I still feel I scooped the Times just a teeny tiny bit. (Read Amp Power, spread the wattage!)
