A moment of silence before your Dulce La Leche. Rose Mattus, 90, co-founder of Haagen Dazs, died last week. Although she was considered the "financial brains" behind the hyper-creamy ice cream, I think we should still honor her for this pounds-adding pleasure. Best-Looking Bucket

Don a tartan armband. Petra Cabot, who designed the Skotch Kooler, died recently. Remember these plaid coolers? According to the Times obit published Sunday, Cabot remarked that "“I decided to make the best-looking bucket anybody ever saw." And I think she did. Petra looks quite fashionable with her creation in this photo. I'd love to have a handbag that looks like a smaller version of this Skotch Kooler. (Image via lifeinlegacy.com)

Pandora's Box

Writer Anais Nin's "other" spouse died a few days ago. Rupert Pole was married to Nin during the '50s and '60s, while she was still married to Hugo Guiler. (Here is Pole's obit, which explains the whole love triangle.) I first started reading Anais Nin's work after I had discovered Henry Miller with whom Nin had an affair. After I read Nin's unexpurgated Diaries, I realized that this woman had problems. She slept with every man she befriended and fancied herself as the facilitator for their creativity. She had a severe father complex and ended up even sleeping with Daddy. In addition, she lied to everyone (except her diary). In order to keep track of all the deception, she created a "Lie Box," in which she kept notes on the varying B.S. she issued out to different lovers. A lot of good it did her; the whole world knows all her secrets now.

Get in the Moog

Today--or tomorrow (have found different information on the web)--is Robert Moog's birthday. Moog died last August at age 71. Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea are the best known musicians to use the Moog synthesizer. So sit back, smoke a little doobage, and listen to some moog.
