Gods Among the Ruins
You'll have to go to the exhibition yourself because these images simply cannot capture the grand scheme of Vik Muniz's "Pictures of Junk" at Sikkema Jenkins & Co. Upon first glance, these photographs look like crude drawings of the great masters' interpretation of Greek Gods. But look closer (i.e, click on image), and you'll see that Muniz has used a landfill's trash (tires, file cabinets, even pianos) to outline and give life to these iconic images. The artist assembled the junk in a space about as big as a basketball court, and the creation took about a month and a half to complete. This is a show in which both process and outcome are awe-inspiring. (Images via Sikkema Jenkins & Co.)
