Devil May Care

I entered the theater as a not-fan. I left as a curious almost-fan. "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" is a documentary about cult figure songwriter Daniel Johnston's rise in popularity and fall into mental illness. Johnston has a squeaky, lispy singing voice, but I can't deny his talent for a turn of a phrase. He's like Brian Wilson but not as successful and possibly more nuts. Best part: when all the NY hipsters realize that they've got an honest-to-goodness maniac on their hands and desperately contact his parents to take him away.
